Waller happy to have restored Saints’ feelgood factor

Jim Mallinder’s men had suffered three successive defeats going into their Amlin Challenge Cup quarter-final at the AJ Bell Stadium.

But a mix of youth and experience ensured the feelgood factor returned as Saints smashed the Sharks 28-14.

Waller was named man of the match in the success and he was delighted to have ensured the winless run ended in Salford.

“After the last few weeks and some tough losses it was good to get out there, put in a performance and get back to winning ways,” said the loosehead prop.

“We were a bit lax when we came out in the second half but you could see the desire and fight the lads had to keep the Sharks out for as long as we did.

Saints made 12 changes for the trip to Salford with boss Jim Mallinder opting to rest five of his six Six Nations stars.

And the decision paid off as the men who came in showed huge desire to get the job done.

“We showed the strength in depth in our squad is pretty impressive,” said Waller.

“We made a lot of changes and had other lads starting who still managed to come out firing and put in a performance like that. It speaks volumes for us as a squad.”
