Sixways scoreline flattered Saints, admits Myler

Jim Mallinder’s men scored three tries in the final 17 minutes to see off Worcester Warriors and secure their seventh successive win in all competitions.

The success had looked in some doubt at half-time, when Northampton were 7-6 down to the Premiership’s bottom side.

But scores from Samu Manoa, Tom Collins and Tom Wood allied with 18 points from Myler, who didn’t miss a kick all afternoon, ensured the win.

And the Saints fly-half said: “It always helps on the scoreboard when you don’t miss, but thankfully we’ve scored three tries as well, which didn’t put massive emphasis on my kicking.

“But it’s always nice to keep the scoreboard ticking over and create a margin of victory which, from half-time, looks quite flattering for us. We earned a good win.”

Worcester had lost all eight of their league games heading into the encounter with Saints, making them huge underdogs.

But the Warriors put in a creditable performance and Myler is adamant he and his team-mates expected nothing less from their lowly opponents.

“We always knew it was going to be a tough game,” he said. “We’ve had scraps there in the past, particularly where they are in the league at the moment. They’re fighting for their lives.

“A little bit of our execution in the first half didn’t really help us, but we’ve come through it, stuck together, responded at half-time and come away with a good away win.”
