Lawes played for Northampton in last Friday’s 23-9 victory against Harlequins, but left Franklin’s Gardens sporting a surgical boot on his right foot.

And the England lock is now a doubt for the game at the Liberty Stadium this weekend, which Saints need to win to retain hope of qualifying from Pool 1.

“Courtney picked up a little knock,” said Northampton forwards coach Dorian West. “I don’t think it’s anything too serious but it’s one we’ll have to keep monitoring and we’ll see where he is nearer the matchday.”

Saints are already without the services of England duo Alex Corbisiero and Ben Foden, who are sidelined with knee injuries.

But there could be some good news on the fitness of backs Ken Pisi and James Wilson.

“They’re both progressing and we’ll see where they are at the end of the week, then decide which players are going to take the field,” said West.

“The sort of injury James has had (a calf problem) takes a while but once you get up to speed it all happens quite quickly.

“We’re hopeful he’ll be available before not too long.”
