Saints fly-half Myler shrugs off praise from pundits

The fly-half says he doesn’t listen to outside influences, preferring to focus on what those inside Franklin’s Gardens has to say about his displays.

Myler was one of Saints’ star men last season, capping his best campaign at the club with man of the match performances in Amlin Challenge Cup and Aviva Premiership final victories.

He picked up where he left off last Friday, inspiring a 53-6 victory against Gloucester, which saw the 30-year-old provide a couple of eye-catching assists.

That has drawn plenty of national acclaim, including former Leicester scrum-half Austin Healey backing Myler to be England’s first-choice No.10 in November’s autumn internationals.

But the former Salford City Reds player said: “I don’t listen to that sort of stuff.

“I don’t really watch that kind of stuff. I listen to what Jim (Mallinder) tells me, what Alex King tells me and what my team-mates tell me.

“I try to do my job accordingly and if I get praise or recognition on the back of that, it’s great, but it’s beyond my control what people say or write.

“I’m only really concerned with what I can do to help the team and if I do that well, the compliments will come on the back of it.

“Personally, I’m trying to improve my game to help the team and that’s all that matters to me.”
