The flanker arrived at Franklin’s Gardens on trial during the summer after injuries ended his stay at London Irish.

And Fisher has gone on to grab the opportunity with both hands, securing a permanent deal and scoring a try on his debut.

The 26-year-old has started the past two games in the absence of back injury victim Tom Wood, and Clark has been impressed with his fellow flanker.

“He’s got on really well and I’m happy for him,” Clark said. “He had his injury difficulties last year, was released by London Irish and he’s come here and really made an impression.

“He’s done well. He’s a bright bloke and he really wants to make something of his opportunity here. He’s taken that on and full credit to him.”

Fisher’s ability is one of many examples of the strength in depth the current Saints squad possesses.

Phil Dowson, Teimana Harrison and Ben Nutley are among the others scrapping it out for first-team slots and keeping Clark and Co on their toes.

“That’s one of the big strengths that in that area we’ve got Fish who’s added a lot, Dows and Woody, with the young lads, Teimana and Nuts,” said Clark.

“You watch them play and you think they’re coming for you. That’s one of the great things about what we’re doing.”
