Northampton had won back-to-back Aviva Premiership games going into the clash at Kingston Park, but they were eventually beaten 26-25.

The result leaves them sixth, five points adrift of the top four.

Saints welcome Worcester this weekend, having lost to the Warriors on the opening night of the season at Sixways.

And Mallinder said: “We’ve got to keep going.

“It (the defeat at Newcastle) is a setback, but it’s not the end.

“We’re certainly not giving up on this league and getting back into the top four.

“We need to quickly get back to winning ways and regroup.

“We owe Worcester one. It was another tight game that we lost away from home at the beginning of the season and we need to see if we can get back to winning ways.”
