Saints boss Mallinder never doubted Dickson’s attitude

Jim Mallinder has hailed Lee Dickson’s ‘fantastic’ energy as the scrap for the Saints No.9 shirt hots up.

Dickson started Friday night’s game against Sale Sharks and illustrated his credentials with a sparky showing and a try in the 33-14 success at Franklin’s Gardens.

Summer signing Kahn Fotuali’i had to be content with a replacement role, emerging from the bench with 20 minutes to go.

Both players have started two games apiece this season and Mallinder has been impressed with how Dickson, who joined Saints in 2008, has handled the arrival of Fotuali’i.

“I didn’t have any doubts about it,” said Mallinder. “As soon as we were going to sign Kahn I spoke to Lee and he said, in a way, ‘bring it on’.

“That’s the nature of him. Just the energy you get from him is fantastic and that is magnified in terms of the way the rest of the players play.

“He was the heart and soul of our display on Friday night.”
