Saints boss Jim Mallinder has confirmed George Pisi is out for ‘a number of weeks’ after picking up a shoulder injury against Worcester last weekend.

Pisi was withdrawn during the second half of the 37-31 win at Franklin’s Gardens and will now miss crucial Aviva Premiership and Heineken Cup games.

Mallinder is hopeful the Samoan centre won’t require surgery but knows he will be without last season’s player of the year for a prolonged period, thought to be between six and 12 weeks.

He said: “George has damaged his shoulder, hopefully it’s not too bad. Hopefully it won’t require surgery, we don’t think it will but he’ll be out for a number of weeks. We’re not too sure in terms of how long it will be. You’ve got to see how he reacts to it.

“It’s an injury which for some people might be a few weeks, for others it might be a bit longer. We’ve just got to see how George reacts.”
