Lawes had been struggling with the problem since colliding with Saracens lock Hayden Smith in Saints’ 20-15 win at Allianz Park in March.
The lofty lock played through the pain to help his club finish fifth in the Aviva Premiership standings, securing a place in the Champions Cup for the forthcoming campaign.
And Lawes also did his bit for England, impressing as they claimed an historic 3-0 series whitewash of Australia down under.
He has since had the operation on his injured ankle and missed his scheduled stag do as he continues to recover.
Lawes is expected to be back in training before Saints’ Aviva Premierhip season opener against Bath at Franklin’s Gardens on September 3.
