Chris Boyd's side suffered a seventh successive home defeat on Tuesday night, going down 34-14 to top-four chasers Sale Sharks.

It was a 12th defeat in the past 14 matches for Saints, who have struggled to come up with any solutions to end their barren run since rugby returned in August.

And Boyd is now ready to take a look at some youngsters as he bids to press the reset button ahead of the start of next season, which comes at Sale on Friday, November 20.

"The rebuilding starts now," said the Saints boss.

"We were pretty keen to see if we could back up that effort and energy against Exeter against Sale and we did it partly, but partly we didn't.

"This Sunday was always going to be about starting preparations for next year.

"We're going to take a bunch of youngsters down there and use that as preparation for next season.

"There are some boys I need to find a bit out about to see whether they're ready to come back in ready for the start of the season.

"Because pre-season is so short, generally you can get a bit of a feel in pre-season if someone is ready but this time we have one pre-season game here against Worcester where we will play everyone so they only get 20 or 30 minutes.

"So I need to find out now whether there are some guys worthy of consideration.

"It won't be an Academy team by any means, but we'll take a pretty young team down to Gloucester and see how we go."
