Saints prop Ma’afu can play in Premiership final after receiving one-week ban

Salesi Ma’afu will be available to play in the Aviva Premiership final after receiving a one-week ban for striking Tom Youngs in Saints play-off semi-final win against Leicester.

The Australian prop was sent off in the 56th minute of his side’s 21-20 success against Tigers at Franklin’s Gardens, with Youngs sin-binned for his part in the scuffle.

Ma’afu pleaded guilty at Tuesday night’s hearing at Bristol Holiday Inn and was ordered to serve a one-week ban as well as pay £500 costs.

That means he will miss Friday night’s Amlin Challenge Cup final clash with Bath at Cardiff Arms Park, but is free to play again on May 26, allowing him to face Saracens at Twickenham next Saturday.

Meanwhile, Owen Williams hearing for making contact with the eye(s)/eye area of Saints centre Luther Burrell in the east midlands derby clash has been adjourned.
