Saints lock Lawes to see specialist about ankle injury

Courtney Lawes will see a specialist next week to determine the full extent of the ankle injury he suffered on Tuesday night.

Courtney Lawes landed awkwardly during Tuesday's game at Franklin's Gardens

Lawes had to be helped from the field in the eighth minute of the 34-14 Gallagher Premiership defeat to Sale Sharks at Franklin's Gardens.

He had landed awkwardly and was down for some time before leaving the field.

And on Wednesday evening, Saints released a short statement on Lawes, after the player was sent for a scan earlier that day.

The statement read: "Northampton Saints can confirm that Courtney Lawes sustained an ankle injury in last night’s defeat to Sale Sharks which requires further examination by a specialist next week, when the timeframe for his recovery will become clearer."
