Opposition view: Murphy feels Tigers should have beaten Saints by more

Tigers only scored one try, through Ben Youngs, but won it thanks to the boot of Zack Henry, who notched five penalties, a conversion and a drop goal.

Full-back Freddie Steward added a long-range penalty to the Tigers tally as sinning Saints were made to pay.

Chris Boyd's side scored a penalty try in the first half before adding further efforts from Paul Hill and Henry Taylor near the end.

But it wasn't to be enough for the black, green and gold.

And Murphy felt the four-point margin of victory should have been more for Tigers, who won despite losing three players to the sin bin.

"I think so, then again, I am wearing Leicester colours," Murphy said.

"It was disappointing to concede right at the death, but when you go into any game, big game, derby match, usually you'd be worried if you had one man in the bin, we had three in the bin, so, we have to address our discipline.

"That's been the case in the past when we've struggled when we've given a lot of penalties away, but Sunday was a good experience and I thought we deserved the win.

"It's really pleasing.

"I thought we started the game well again, we rode out a really tough patch before half-time where we found ourselves with a couple of men in the bin at the same time, so we were down to 13, which is always going to be challenging against a side like Northampton.

"To concede a penalty try was disappointing.

"But I thought the players went back to work pretty well and showed some real determination and that long-range penalty from Freddie Steward was a big moment for us."
