Mallinder’s men head to Gloucester knowing they must win to make sure of a top six spot in the Aviva Premiership this season.

Saints currently sit fifth, but have Harlequins, who are a point behind, and Sale Sharks, who are a further point back, breathing down their necks.

And they cannot afford to slip up on the final day of the campaign if they are to book their place in next season’s Champions Cup.

Mallinder is hoping his men can repeat the kind of away performances they produced in wins at the likes of Bath, Quins and Saracens this weekend.

And he said: “It’s not as if every home game we’ve been dominant and we’ve gone away and been terrible; we’ve had some really good performances away from home this year.

“We’ve got an experienced team and we know we can play away from home.

“We’ll look forward to it and we really want to finish the whole season on a high.

“It has been a disappointing season but if we can get the win this week, stay in that top six then we can go into summer with our heads high.”
