Jim Mallinder believes George North’s switch to centre went well at Welford Road on Saturday.
And the director of rugby says the versatility of the Wales star is a ‘huge bonus’ for Saints.
North started at 13 for the first time this season and he proceeded to score his second try of the campaign in the 30-27 defeat at Leicester Tigers.
The 23-year-old was heavily involved in the game and once again struck up a good partnership with Luther Burrell, as he had in a memorable Saints win at Leinster in December, 2013.
And Mallinder said: “George is a quality rugby player and it was an opportunity for him to get a bit more ball in hand.
“He’s dangerous and I think it went well.
“I think he’s enjoyed the experience and to have someone like George, who can play in the centre and who can play on the wing, is a huge bonus.”
