Mallinder’s men scored four tries to secure a bonus-point 22-10 success at Scarlets, ensuring hopes of a quarter-final place in this season’s Champions Cup remain alive.

Saints, who finished runners up in Pool 3, will now hope for a favour from either Exeter Chiefs, who play Ospreys, or Leicester, who go to Stade Francais, on Sunday.

But Mallinder was just happy to see his side do their bit at a rain-soaked Parc y Scarlets.

“Job done,” the Saints boss said. “It’s always difficult coming to Wales and Scarlets are a proud team.

“We knew they would come out fighting after they lost at Racing last week and it was difficult conditions.

“But we worked hard, defended well and scored four nice tries.

“We’ve done what we can do and now we’ll sit back and try to enjoy Sunday afternoon.

“Hopefully one of the results will go our way.”
