And the Samoan admitted his team’s discipline ‘went out of the window’ in an Aviva Premiership encounter they managed to edge 15-9.

Pisi was named man of the match on a night when Saints’ had few stand-out performers.

Nevertheless, they survived a late scare to see the game out, earning a success that stretches their lead over second-placed Bath to five points.

And Pisi, whose brother, Ken, and Sam Dickinson scored the Saints tries, said: “It wasn’t a performance we’re proud of but we can take one positive out of it and that’s the four points.

“We’re a proud team that really works on performance and it just wasn’t up to standard.

“We’re lucky to get the four points, but we’ll take the win.”

So what does Pisi put the below-par performance down to?

“There was a bit too much eagerness and they’re quite good at slowing the game down,” he said.

“Our discipline went out the window and we just didn’t focus on the basic things we needed to do.

“There’s frustration there and when you can’t get your game going and get your maul going that’s what it comes from.

“It’s something we have to learn from. A lot of teams are going to do that and it’s a big game (at Bath) next week.

“It’s one to look forward to.”
