Pisi: Saints have come a long way this season

The Samoan centre scored three minutes from time to help his side secure a dramatic 17-16 Aviva Premiership win at Exeter Chiefs on Saturday night.

It wasn’t the first time Jim Mallinder’s men have snatched a last-gasp victory, with the success at Sandy Park reminiscent of late heroics in other games this season.

And Pisi believes that owes much to the unity and belief that has been fostered at Franklin’s Gardens during the current campaign.

“That win (at Exeter) shows the togetherness that we have as a team,” said the 27-year-old. “Everyone’s playing for each other and we’ve come a long way this season.

“As a team we’re playing for each other and playing for positions. When you win, you’re happy.”

Saints’ victory was their ninth in succession in all competitions and it sent them to the top of the Premiership standings.

Next up is a clash with Worcester on Saturday, and Pisi is eager to maintain the huge amount of momentum that has been gained in recent weeks.

He said: “Winning is why you play rugby and if we keep this momentum going we’ll be a tough team to beat.

“A team like Worcester that’s really desperate is a hard team to beat and especially playing at home we can’t give them a sniff.

“It’s an opportunity for us to play for the fans again. We didn’t play that well against Saracens so it’s an opportunity for us to go out there and give a good performance.”
