Pisi dedicates final triumph to Saints’ former players

Pisi turned in a fine performance in Saturday’s dramatic 24-20 extra-time victory against Saracens in the final at Twickenham.

It made up for the defeat to Leicester in the previous year’s showpiece and the gut-wrenching 2011 Heineken Cup heartache at the hands of Leinster.

And Pisi paid tribute to those men who had left Saints without being able to end the club’s long wait for a major trophy, which had gone back to the 2000 Heineken Cup triumph.

“We’d come so close, especially last year, and this goes out to all those past players who didn’t have the opportunity to be in the final and win it,” said the Samoan wing.

“Last season’s Premiership final was about testing the waters, and now we know how each of our brothers play, we just gelled on Saturday.

“We were just relieved it was over and we came out on top.

“We’ve been dreaming about this time for a while now and we’ve just got to celebrate it and enjoy it.”

Pisi says the current Saints crop were always confident they would deliver when it mattered.

And he feels the club’s fans played a key role in last weekend’s momentous occasion.

“The boys always had the confidence,” said Pisi.

“It started off entering the stadium and we just saw all Saints supporters.

“We just knew this was home for us, our fans would help us along the way. The boys did well and came out on top.

“We deserve it to be honest. I’m just happy for the boys.”
