Hamilton keeps his head in chaotic Tuscan Grand Prix

Lewis Hamilton negotiated a tumultuous Tuscan Grand Prix to extend his championship lead.

Valtteri Bottas threatened in the early stages to take the race to Hamilton but had to settle for second, while there was a debut podium for Red Bull's Alex Albon.

The race looked to be settling before another red flag when Lance Stroll's Racing Point suffered a tyre failure and spun him into the wall.

Hamilton continued to control the pace, with Albon passing Daniel Ricciardo late on to claim his first top three finish.

Hamilton said: "It is all a bit of a daze, like three races in one day. This track is phenomenal, and keeping Valtteri behind wasn't easy. I needed a lot of focus, it was really hard.

"It's crazy to be here in Mugello and celebrate 90 wins."

Bottas said: "It's disappointing because I made a dream start and managed to hold my position at the safety car restart but there were no opportunities to pass Lewis after the restart.

"I just need to keep pushing and trying to get better. It has to come right for me at some point."

Albon said: "It has taken a while to get here but I'm really happy to be here! Most of my overtakes needed to be done on circuit, but it was so fun to drive."

Ricciardo finished just off the podium in fourth, ahead of Sergio Perez, Lando Norris and Daniil Kvyat.

Ferrari were celebrating their 1000th Grand Prix and took a double points finish, with Charles Leclerc eighth and Sebastian Vettel in tenth, either side of Kimi Raikkonen.
