County's top potters are set for two big tournaments

Northamptonshire’s trio of snooker stars are gearing up for the final tournaments of the calendar year.

Kettering’s Kyren Wilson, Raunds’ Harvey Chandler and Wellingborough’s Jamie O’Neill will all be at York Barbican next week to compete in the Betway UK Championship, which gets under way on Tuesday.

World number nine Wilson will take on Riley Parsons in the first round, Chandler will be up against Robert Milkins while O’Neill faces Thepchaiya Un-Nooh.

The draw has also been made for the 19.com Scottish Open, which takes place at the Emirates Arena in Glasgow between December 9 and 16.

And O’Neill has been handed the daunting prospect of facing home favourite and former world champion John Higgins in the first round.

Wilson will be up against Hossein Vafaei while Chandler takes on Jimmy Robertson.

All three players were involved in the Northern Ireland Open last week with Chandler enjoying one of his best runs in a World Snooker Tour tournament as he reached the last 32.

He enjoyed wins over Ryan Day (4-1) and Mitchell Mann (4-2) before losing 4-2 to world number 14 Stephen Maguire.

Wilson beat Alan McManus (4-0), Peter Ebdon (4-1) and Tian Pengfei (4-2) but fell in the last 16, going down 4-3 to Anthony Hamilton.

O’Neill won his first-round match against Sunny Akani 4-2 but then ran into world number seven Mark Allen, who recorded a 4-0 victory against the Northants player.
