Myler says there is plenty of room for Saints improvement

The champions turned in a strong performance as they claimed a 19-12 success against London Irish at the Madejski Stadium.

Irish failed to register a try during the encounter as they came up against a visiting defence that resembled a brick wall.

But while he was happy with the rearguard action, fly-half Myler, who landed 14 points, feels there is still plenty of work to be done at the other end of the pitch.

He said: “We consider defence a strength of ours and the basis of our game is to be defensively sound and build from there.

“The last part of the Bath game the week before showed that when we do defend properly we can handle teams.

“The challenge for us is to stay in our system and defend how we know we can.

“Going forward we can be a little bit more clinical and when we have opportunities we might have some rewards.”

And he added: “We knew it was going to be tough going to Irish.

“I don’t think we played our best by any stretch of the imagination, but Irish are a good side and it was a good four points to take back up the motorway. It was objective achieved.

“We’ve still got room for improvement but we were obviously happy to win.”
