The fly-half has started every game in the Aviva Premiership and Heineken Cup, impressing throughout.

Myler is the Premiership’s top kicker, with an 84 per cent rate, succeeding with 57 of his 68 attempts.

His form has caught the eye of England boss Stuart Lancaster, who has included the Saints metronome in his 35-man training squad for the Six Nations.

And Burrell, who will also join up with the national party at Pennyhill Park on Monday, said: “He (Myler) is the pinnacle for us going forward, with the way he orders the forward pack around, the way he organises the players around him.

“He’s just been fantastic this season and I take my hat off to him and the club for giving him the No.10 jersey and saying ‘you’re our No.1 going forward’.

“He’s really embraced it and you can see that in his form. He’s playing with a smile on his face, he’s getting the players around him into the game and he’s kicking his goals very, very well.”

Myler has benefited from the tuition of backs coach Alex King, a summer recruit from Clermont Auvergne.

And he has been involved in plenty of key moments already this season, with one of them standing out for Burrell.

“The most recent one that comes to mind is the Wasps game, when we needed to win that and he stepped up in the last 20 seconds and knocked it over from the touchline,” said the centre.

“You can’t ask for much more than that from your goalkicker. It’s like a breath of fresh air.”
