Kettering’s Ricky Evans has qualified for the European Darts Grand Prix later this month.
The event, which will be held at the Glaspalast in Sindelfingen, Germany, is part of the PDC’s European Tour series and will take place over the weekend of October 16.
Evans earned his spot in the tournament by beating Jim Walker (6-4) and Eddie Dootson (6-3) before sealing a 6-3 success over former European Tour winner Wes Newton in the final stage of the UK Qualifier at Barnsley’s Metrodome.
Evans was also in action in the two latest Players Championship events over the remainder of the weekend.
He claimed an eye-catching 6-4 win over two-time world champion Adrian Lewis in the first round on Saturday before seeing off Nathan Aspinall by the same scoreline.
But his run was ended in the third round when he lost a last-leg shoot-out 6-5 against Wayne Jones. Evans earned £750 in prize money for his efforts.
However, his good form didn’t carry on into Sunday’s competition as he suffered a 6-5 defeat to Mike Zuydwijk in the first round.
Evans will be back in action tomorrow (Friday) and on Saturday as the 17th and 18th Players Championship events are held in Dublin ahead of the start of the World Grand Prix on Sunday.
