Corby-based Danny Keating ran his fastest time for a number of years when he finished an excellent fourth in the Waterside 5 road race at Cambridge.
Competing in the colours of Leicester Coritanian, the 45-year-old covered the distance in 27.26 to place third in the Veteran-40 section behind Bedford and County’s Stephen Earley (26.55) and Riverside Runners’ Alan Turnbull (26.41) who finished second overall to unattached runner Mark Rushbrook in 26.08.
Also in action for Corby AC was Chris Curtis, who produced a solid effort to finish sixth in 27.58, and Graeme Hall whose time of 30.35 slotted him into 20th overall and ninth Veteran-40.
Elsewhere on the roads for Corby AC, John Thomas repeated his Veteran-70 victory of last year when he competed in the Ely New Year’s Eve 10km event.
He returned a time of 45.00 to finish well ahead of Huntington’s David Hetherington (52.50).
His effort slotted him into 139th overall in the race which saw Woodford Green’s Matt Gunby clock 30.40 to repeat his win of last year with a two-second victory over Aaron Scott of Notts AC.
Top finisher for Corby in the women’s race was Catherine Wright whose effort of 44.07 gave her second place in the Veteran-55 age group behind Thames Hare and Hounds’ Anna Garnier (42.49).
Wright’s performance slotted her into 21st position overall in the race which was won in 34.52 by Woodford Green’s Felicity Milton from Bristol’s Claire Hallissey (35.28).
Also in action for Corby were Trudi Pike and Kate Armstrong with the former finishing 30th and third in the Veteran-40 group thanks to a fine run of 45.18 while Armstrong’s time of 45.54 gave her 36th position and fourth Veteran-50.
