Wellingborough Phoenix maintained their title challenge in EBL Men’s Division Three (South) with a comfortable 96-67 home win over UWIC Archers.
Daniel Turiccki scored 17 points for Phoenix, who led from the start and were never headed, winning all four quarters on the night.
An electric start saw Phoenix in total control by the end of the first quarter, which they won 36-10.
Archers competed better in the second quarter but Wellingborough still took it 32-22 to lead 68-32 at half-time.
The third quarter was much closer, Phoenix edging it 16-15, to suggest that Archers could yet cause their hosts some awkward moments in the final period.
But it was not to be as Phoenix kept them firmly at arm’s length to win the quarter 20-12 and pick up another impressive victory.
Turiccki led all scorers in the game, supported by Carl Fletcher with 16 and Leon Henry with 13.
The result keeps Phoenix second in the table, two points behind leaders Canary Wharf Baltic, but with a game in hand.
They now have a weekend off before returning to league action with a double-header away to London Greenhouse Pioneers on January 21, followed by a home game against Oxford Brookes 24 hours later.
Phoenix Ladies return to action in Women’s Division Two (Midlands South-East) this Sunday with a trip to Ipswich Bobcats.
