Mallinder ready to build Saints team around Myler

Saints boss Jim Mallinder is ready to build his team around Stephen Myler after the fly-half signed a new deal at Franklin’s Gardens.

Myler, who joined Northampton in 2006 and has gone on to register 1,427 points in 187 appearances, is to remain at the club for the foreseeable future.

The 28-year-old has been the first-choice No.10 this season, sitting above Leicester-bound Ryan Lamb in the pecking order.

And Mallinder now looks set to give Myler the chance to retain the shirt next season, hailing the former rugby league player’s consistency.

“Time and again Stephen has shown that he is a very good player and someone who we can build the team around,” said the director of rugby.

“He has an intelligent approach to the game, and a superb work ethic on and off the field. We’re very happy that he has signed a new contract with the Saints.”
