Mallinder has no plans to bring in cover for injured Corbisiero

Jim Mallinder is not considering bringing in injury cover for England prop Alex Corbisiero.

Instead, the Saints director of rugby will once against call on the Waller brothers, Alex and Ethan, as well as Danny Hobbs-Awoyemi, to fill to void left by the loosehead.

Corbisiero suffered torn shoulder ligaments in a collision with Bath lock Dave Attwood last weekend and will be out until early in the new year.

But with the Wallers having filled in so impressively when Corbisiero missed six months of last season with a knee injury, Mallinder has no concerns about his squad’s strength.

“At the moment we won’t look at bringing anyone in because of the players we’ve got,” said the Saints director of rugby.

“It’s pointless going out there and there’s not many better looseheads around who are available.

“We’ve got confidence in those players and it’s great for them to get game time. So, no, in terms of bringing in cover, I don’t think we’ll be doing that.”

With Corbisiero missing all of England’s autumn international campaign, it could pave the way for Alex Waller to play a part for country as well as club.

But even if the Kettering-born prop does get the call, it appears Mallinder will be happy to rely on Academy graduates Ethan Waller and Hobbs-Awoyemi.

“We’ve got good competition coming from Ethan and Danny, who has been getting some game time at Moseley,” he said.

“Danny’s been coming off the bench for the Wanderers. He’s been outstanding. We’ve got strength in depth there so I’m looking forward to seeing them take their opportunities.”
