Mallinder confident Waldouck can step up for Saints

Foden limped off with a knee injury during the second half of last Saturday’s 18-0 victory against Newcastle and had a scan on Monday.

The results showed he had injured his PCL (posterior cruciate ligament) and he saw a specialist on Wednesday to determine the full extent of the problem.

Foden is likely to face himself facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines, meaning Mallinder could switch James Wilson to full-back and bring in Waldouck at 13.

And the Saints boss is fully confident that the former Wasps centre is capable of doing a job during a stage of the season that could prove pivotal, with back-to-back Heineken Cup clashes against Leinster on the horizon.

“We’re pleased with Dom Waldouck,” said Mallinder.

“He didn’t play much early on, but he’s slowly worked his way into the team, doing well for the Wanderers, in the LV= Cup and now the Premiership.

“That’s why you have these quality players around and we know Dom Waldouck is desperate to play well for Saints.

“I’m looking forward to having a series of games.”
