Kettering's Kyren beaten in last 16 in Glasgow

The Kettering snooker star, who is currently ranked 16 in the world, enjoyed a decent week in Glasgow as he claimed three 4-0 victories in a row to reach the fourth round.

But world number four Trump, the man Wilson beat to win his first ranking title in the Shanghai Masters last year, had a bit too much for him on this occasion.

Wilson, who celebrates his 25th birthday next week, controlled the opening frame but breaks of 68 and 81 put Trump in front.

Trump then made it 3-1 to go to within one frame of victory but Wilson stopped the rot to keep his hopes alive by winning the fifth.

Wilson was at the table and looking well set to send the match into a decider but a missed black proved costly and Trump returned to the table to wrap up his win.

Earlier in the day, Wilson had booked his place in the last 16 with a third 4-0 victory over the week as he saw off Oliver Lines.

He opened with a break of 59 and then had a visit of 101 in the third frame before wrapping up a comfortable win.

The Northamptonshire man had also eased through his first two rounds with whitewashes against Jamie Jones and Ben Woollaston, in which he hit a top break of 82.

Wilson will now be looking ahead as he prepares to make his debut in The Dafabet Masters at the Alexandra Palace in London early in the new year.
