Myler suffered the injury while on international duty, giving England head coach Stuart Lancaster the ‘easy’ decision of naming Danny Cipriani as George Ford’s back-up for the Six Nations opener in Wales on Friday night.

The Saints man was released back to his club, where he will bid to recover in time to play a part in England’s home clash with Italy a week on Saturday.

But Myler will not be available for the LV= Cup game at Franklin’s Gardens this weekend.

“Stephen’s got a slight niggle so it gives one of the younger players to step in at 10 this weekend,” said Saints attack coach King.

“The selection will be a combination of people who need game time, people coming back from injury and the new guys, Tommy (Ryder) and Ace (Ahsee Tuala), two top lads who have brought real energy to the environment.

“It will be a mixed selection but that’s what the LV= Cup is about and everyone’s really keen to get us back to winning ways.

“We’ll manage Stephen and hopefully he’ll be fit for next week, either with England or with us.”
