Hill has made a name for himself, says Saints team-mate Gibson

Jamie Gibson believes young prop Paul Hill ‘made a name for himself’ with his performance in Friday’s 9-9 draw with Racing 92.

The 20-year-old was thrown into the action with just 29 minutes gone as Kieran Brookes was forced off with a knee injury.

The extent of that problem is not yet known, but if Brookes is out for a lengthy spell, Saints will hope Hill and Gareth Denman can step up.

And Gibson believes Hill, who joined Saints from Yorkshire Carnegie during the summer, has shown he is capable of making his mark.

“Hilly is a young player and he may not have the name that Brooksey has, but he’s come on in the last few weeks and he’s made a big difference when he’s come on to the pitch,” Gibson said.

“I suppose there’s a few young English tightheads making a name for themselves and he’s one of them.

“He brings a lot of power and weight there, but he works hard, he gets the ball in his hands, he makes some good tackles around the pitch and you could see from some of those scrums at the end – against some of the best players in the world – he’s pushing them backwards.

“He made a name for himself.”
