Harrier West runs well in Harborough

Phil West finished top local club runner up in the Harborough 5 mile road race, which incorporated the sixth round of the East Midlands Grand Prix series.

The Kettering Town Harrier completed the hilly course in 28.25 to finish 13th in a race which saw past winner Gordon Lee (Leicester) win easily in 26.02.

Dan Doherty (22nd in 29.54) had a solid run for Team Balancise as did Corby’s Neal Humphreys (28th in 30.14) while top finisher for Wellingborough & District AC was Jon Kemp (32nd in 30.32). Further Wellingborough results were: 53rd Edward Frain 32.45, 54th Simon Hobday 32.49, 65th Andrew Redden 33.48, 69th Julian Blackwell 33.59, 76th Peter Williams 34.31, 80th Phil Farley 35.01, 90th Alan Griffiths 36.05, 94th Christopher Jones 36.27, 141st Les Rolfe 40.02, 148th Israel Archuletta 40.58 and 164th Eamon Kennedy 44.22.

John Thomas (118th in 37.40), Martyn Green (145th in 40.24) and Roger Garrity (169th in 46.15) ran for Corby, Kemal Mehmet (39th in 31.15), Steve Green (62nd in 33.25), Richard Campbell (84th in 35.24) and Anthony Poncia (117th in 37.34) competed for Kettering while Fred Devereaux in 79th and in a time of 35.00 represented Team Balancise.

Rachel Cave (Team Balancise) again led home the local female contingent when she ran the distance in 33.30 to finish a fine ninth while also running well was the Corby pair of Jemma Anderson (15th in 35.54) and Maggie Mulholland, who clocked 35.58 to finish 16th and win the Veteran-45 section. Sophie Smith (44th in 40.41) ran for Corby while Barbara Fulton who finished 40th in 39.43 for Kettering.

Fronting the Wellingborough squad when running 36.14 to finish 18th was Louise Kemp who was followed by Sarah Ellwood (28th in 38.36), Sally Richards (54th in 41.07), Kirsty Hewitt (56th in 41.30), Carly Walker (61st in 42.08), Theresa Clark (67th in 42.58), Lucia Hale (68th in 42.58), Valerie Anslow (88th in 47.17), Stacey Pywell (93rd in 47.46), Sally Hewitt (94th in 47.47) and Julie Rolfe (112th in 58.55).

Kym Wheeler led home the Corby female runners in the second round of the Peterborough 5km & 3km road race series at Eye. She came home eighth in a time of 21.37 and was followed by Trudi Pike (14th in 22.01), Deb Galletta (20th in 23.07) and Kerry Green (60th in 31.03).

Top finisher in the men’s section for the club was Robert McArthur (76th in 20.25), who was followed by Nigel Taylor (86th in 20.58), Graham King (112th in 22.10), Dave Eaton (121st in 22.40), John Thomas (123rd in 22.43), Norman Smith (131st in 23.14) and Kevin Smith (154th in 23.38) while competing for Kettering was Shane Smith, who came 89th in 21.02.
