Wright feels hard done by as Steelmen lose out to Nuneaton

The Steelmen suffered a terrible start as they fell behind to a Tyrell Waite goal after just 33 seconds.

But they hit back after the break with Greg Mills bringing them level, only for the Vanarama National League North play-off contenders to end the contest with two goals in 11 minutes as Joe Ironside’s headers and Elliott Whitehouse’s penalty secured the points.

The defeat saw Corby drop back into the bottom three after Brackley Town claimed a 2-0 success at Hednesford Town.

But Wright wasn’t completely downhearted and he insisted he thought his team would go on and win once Mills had levelled things up.

“It was a disastrous start, I think we were still in the changing-rooms,” the Steelmen boss said.

“But we grew into the game. It was important for us to get back in and regroup.

“We made the change (bringing Ryan Robbins on) and went for it and I just asked the boys for a reaction and I think we got one.

“We obviously got the goal, we looked like we would go on and win the game.

“They hit us on the break and it was a great goal, a great cross and great header.

“I appreciate goals like that. That’s the desire to get on the end of a cross and it was a bullet of a finish and I just wish we got more like that at the other end.

“We will have to look at why that happened and then the third one was unfortunate.

“I feel a bit hard done by to be honest and I think Nuneaton leave here feeling they have got out of jail with that one.”

With the results going against them, there is now added importance for the Steelmen’s long trip to Bradford Park Avenue on Wednesday night.

A victory would lift them back out of the relegation zone and also bring Bradford right back into the thick of things at the wrong end of the table.

And Wright added: “The results have gone against us but I said a couple of weeks ago that it will be a rollercoaster.

“You get the high and then you are back on a low and yesterday was one of the lows.

“We have to pick up the pieces. We will get the boys in tomorrow (Monday) and regroup and we will go to Bradford Park Avenue looking to win a game of football.”
