However, in a dramatic turn of events, the club confirmed today (Saturday) that Wright has resigned due to “work and family commitments”.

And Wright has spoken of how things changed quickly in the past 24 hours.

Speaking to the Northamptonshire Telegraph, Wright said: “My work commitments are due to change in mid-October and I was told about that on Friday (yesterday).

“So rather than get to that point knowing that ultimately I will miss at least one, maybe two Saturday games a month which would have caused problems, I chose to step down and give the club the best possible chance to appoint the right manager who can commit 100 per cent.

“There will be people thinking there is more to it but genuinely there isn’t and I feel sorry for the club because they have done everything for me since I’ve been back.

“I just can’t commit to it the way they need me to so I’ve made the decision for the good of the club.”

The Steelmen are inviting applications over the next week as they look to make a swift appointment.

In a series of announcements today, the club said: “Tommy Wright has resigned as manager of Corby Town Football Club due to work and family commitments.

“Corby Town are inviting applications for the position of First Team Manager.
