We'll fight for every point, says Steelmen boss Wright

The Steelmen are facing relegation as they sit seven points adrift of safety with seven games to play.

The second part of their Easter double-header presents them with the toughest of tests this afternoon (Monday, 3pm) as the rock-bottom Steelmen make the trip to take on leaders Solihull Moors.

Corby go into it on the back of a 0-0 draw with fellow strugglers Hednesford Town at Steel Park on Saturday.

And while Wright knows his team are facing a tough task to get out of trouble, he insists there’s no chance of him giving up.

“It’s going to be a big ask,” the Steelmen boss said.

“I have said it all along, this time on its day can beat anyone in this league but I think that’s the case for every other team.

“We had a chance to win a game on Saturday but we missed the penalty and it is small margins in football.

“If myself, Liam (coach O’Neill), the chairman and the fans give up today then we might as well lock the doors and say ‘we’ll see you next year in the Southern or Northern Premier’.

“That’s not in my make-up, that’s not my mentality as a person at all to just roll over and die.

“We will fight for every point between now and the end of the season and we’ll see where we are at.”

Wright, meanwhile, expects Ben O’Hanlon to start today’s game at Solihull.

The left-sided player returned to Corby on loan from Wolverhampton Wanderers last week but was only fit enough to start on the bench against Hednesford.

He came on to replace Wright, who suffered a hamstring injury, after just 20 minutes but was then withdrawn late on in the game.

Wright added: “Ben has only trained three days since having a muscle injury so with the games over bank holiday the plan was just to play him for 20 minutes on Saturday and then start him today.

“He completed an hour and he will start today as long as he is okay.”
