It’s been a season of struggle for the Steelmen and their poor start to the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League Division season ultimately cost Tommy Wright his job.

He was replaced by Gary Mills and while the trend has continued with three defeats in a row since he took charge, he now appears to be putting his stamp on things at Steel Park.

Moore, a prolific striker in non-League football, and experienced midfielder Phil Trainer were both signed up last week while the likes of Callum Ball, Shaquille Whittingham and Duran Martin have all departed.

Moore scored from the penalty spot on his debut for the Steelmen on Tuesday night as they claimed a 4-3 penalty shoot-out success at Cogenhoe United after a 2-2 draw in the NFA Hillier Senior Cup quarter-final.

Now it’s back to the league business and Corby have some serious work to do as they sit second-from-bottom and seven points adrift of safety.

But things have to start somewhere and, for the Steelmen, that place will hopefully by all the way up at Workington.

The longest journey of the season doesn’t faze Moore, however, and he is hoping he can score the goals that will help lead Corby to safety.

“It’s a long journey but I don’t think players really worry about that,” the former Aston Villa striker said.

“You get on the coach, go and play the game and try to get three points.

Football is full of ups and downs and Corby have obviously struggled so far.

“But it’s always the case that one result can turn things for you and we need to get that one result to get things going.

“I have scored goals wherever I have played and I want to come here and do that again. I want to help the club win games and move up the table.

“I am sure the gaffer (Mills) will be looking to bring more players in to try to turn things around.

“It seems like a good bunch here but they are a bit low on confidence, which is to be expected after the start they have had.

“The only way to boost that confidence is by picking up results and that’s what we must start doing as quickly as possible.”

Moore, meanwhile, is just looking forward to playing some matches after joining the Steelmen on loan from Vanarama National League side Solihull Moors.

“I just want to be playing more football, I haven’t been playing as much as I would have liked,” he added.

“I knew the manager anyway and he has given me the opportunity to come in and play some games.”

The Steelmen’s reward for beating Cogenhoe in midweek is a home clash with Desborough Town in the semi-finals of the NFA Hillier Senior Cup.

They will battle it out for a place in the final in the week commencing February 6.
