Two goals in three second-half minutes saw Corby Town maintain their unbeaten run in pre-season as they claimed a 2-0 win at Bedford Town.

The Blue Square Bet North side took the lead on 69 minutes when Avelino Vieira raced clear of the home defence and beat Ian Brown.

And it was the in-form Ricky Miller, who is seeking a move to Steel Park, who wrapped up the victory three minutes later.

Kettering Town, meanwhile, suffered their first defeat and conceded their first goals of pre-season as they lost 5-3 to Northern League Premier Division outfit Grantham Town.

The Poppies, again, fielded two different teams in each half and they went into the break 2-1 up thanks to goals from Sam Azis and Jamie Griffiths.

But the changes made at half-time seemed to have a big effect on the hosts and they conceded four goals to go 5-2 down before trialist Sean Bennett-Johnson scored a late consolation.

The Poppies will take on a Northampton Town XI in a newly-arranged friendly at Nene Park on Thursday (7.30pm).

Elsewhere, the ChromaSport & Trophies United Counties League sides also continued their build-ups to the new season.

Wellingborough Town enjoyed a comfortable 3-0 home with over Thrapston Town while Irchester United drew 1-1 with Kettering Nomads.

Burton Park Wanderers’ clash at Stanwick was abandoned after 55 minutes with the game goalless and Raunds Town’s home game with Ickwell & Old Warden was postponed.

On Friday night, Desborough Town claimed a fine 6-0 home success over Rushden & Higham United while AFC Rushden & Diamonds went down 3-1 at home to Luton Town’s under-19s.Whitworth were 2-1 winners at Huntingdon.
