Ian Sampson believes Corby Town are ready for their opening pre-season friendly at ChromaSport & Trophies United Counties League Premier Division side Harborough Town tonight (7.45pm).
The Steelmen boss is hoping to field two different teams for each half this evening as he looks to give his first-team squad a run-out as well as running the rule over a number of trialists who have been training with the club.
And Sampson is expecting a good contest from hosts Harborough.
“I understand they are a decent team and it is a nice set up over there so the playing surface should be good,” the Corby manager said.
“We wanted to get another game in before playing Northampton at home on Saturday and this is a good game for us.
“Everyone will get a run out and it will probably be a case of having two teams, which will both get 45 minutes.
“It is a game that is needed now.
“And it is a perfect opportunity for us to have a look at the trialists who have been with us.
“Training is one thing but you can only get a real idea of what these players can do when you put them in a match situation.”
Sampson, meanwhile, says he been “wincing” at times due to the competitive nature of the training sessions so far.
“Training has been really good, in fact it has been excellent,” he added.
“It has been extremely competitive when we have played some small-sided games and I have winced a couple of times because the tackles have been flying in.
“But that is a good thing and hopefully we will get an even better idea of what all these lads can do tonight.”
