Steelmen boss Wright expecting a '˜rollercoaster ride'

The Steelmen breathed new life into their own bid to escape the drop with a dramatic 2-1 victory at Worcester City on Saturday.

Corby remain in the bottom three but the bottom nine teams in the division are separated by just nine points with the Steelmen, who are 20th, now being just one behind Bradford Park Avenue in 15th.

Wright and his players are now preparing to take on Gainsborough Trinity at Steel Park on Saturday, which is quickly followed by a tough midweek trip to fourth-placed AFC Fylde.

And the Corby boss is in no doubt that there will be plenty of “highs and lows” in what is set to be a close race to survive drop.

“I genuinely think it is going to be a rollercoaster ride for everyone,” Wright said.

“There will be highs and lows over the next 16 matches and we will be ready for all of those.

“There will be weeks when you win and others lose and every game will become a six-pointer simply because other teams’ results will always have an affect on what you do.

“It will keep it very exciting for the fans and I think it will keep the lads focused.

“Every game will merit different tactics. I am sure our approach will be totally different when we play Gainsborough this weekend and then it will change again for the game at Fylde next Tuesday.”

Wright, meanwhile, believes there is a “different mentality” within the squad compared to a few weeks ago.

At the weekend, the Steelmen led through Duane Courtney’s first-half header, only for Shaun Donnellan to level late on.

However, Corby hit back and an own-goal from Worcester goalkeeper Ethan Ross secured a crucial three points.

“I do think that never say die attitude is well and truly back,” Wright added.

“The first thing we are thinking about at the moment is hard work. We are staying in matches now and we aren’t throwing in the towel like we did.

“There has been a change in attitude. The lads are in and around each other.

“It couldn’t carry on the way it was and there is a different mentality.”
