Steelmen are beaten at fellow strugglers Marine

Things had been looking good for the Steelmen after Phil Trainer had given them a half-time advantage but two goals from home captain Danny Mitchley turned things around after the break.

Trainer levelled with seven minutes to go but the Steelmen were condemned to a loss when Alfons Fosa-Mensah hit the late winner.

The defeat means Corby sit just above the relegation zone on goal difference while Marine moved four points clear of them ahead of what is now a massive return fixture between the two teams at Steel Park on Saturday.

Gary Mills made changes to his starting line-up following the 3-0 defeat at Barwell with Connor Kennedy, Spencer Weir-Daley and Steven Leslie all coming into the team at the expense of Aaron Brown, who wasn’t in the squad, Stefan Moore and Jordon Crawford.

Kennedy had an early effort saved by the legs of Marine goalkeeper Paul Phillips but Corby did take the lead on 27 minutes when Trainer broke the deadlock after good work from Weir-Daley.

But the hosts drew level nine minutes into the second half thanks to Mitchley, who then gave his team a 2-1 advantage when he beat Aidan Grant from the penalty spot after a foul by Kennedy.

It looked like Corby would salvage a point when Trainer brought them level on 83 minutes.

But Fosa-Mensah had the final say as he grabbed a dramatic late winner to give Marine the points.
