The Steelmen, who are still unbeaten in the league this season, moved into second place after they claimed a stunning 6-0 victory over current leaders Bromsgrove Sporting at Steel Park on Wednesday night.

Steve Kinniburgh’s team now sit two points behind Bromsgrove with two games in hand, one of which is tomorrow’s (Saturday) home clash with Aylesbury.

And the fact a win will leave them top of the pile by the end of the day is something the manager insists will be the forefront of his players’ minds.

“It definitely comes into play,” Kinniburgh said.

“For this group of players and for the age of this group, the understanding of how to win league titles whether you are chasing or at the top is all about that mental toughness.

“We have not been right at the top yet but it will be mentioned and it will be at the front of our minds.

“There is always a pressure on us to go and do well and we have to make sure we perform once again.”

With Bromsgrove having set the early pace, Corby’s big midweek success proved they should be right in the hunt for promotion this season.

And Kinniburgh added: “It shows that if we do turn up and perform then I don’t think there are many teams that can match us.

“But it comes back to that mental toughness I keep talking about. We have to have that because if we do then we know we have the pace, the ability and the grit.

“When we do it right, we can go and take on most teams. When we are on it we are a right good team but we have to keep that consistency.”
