The rock-bottom Steelmen were eventually humbled by the hosts, who had started the day in the place immediately above Gary Mills’ team.

Sutton took the lead through George Washbourne on eight minutes and Luke Rodgers made it 2-0 before Washbourne added a third before the break.

Rodgers made it 4-0 on 66 minutes and completed his hat-trick from the penalty spot with 15 minutes to go.

A fine strike from Steven Leslie, with his first goal for the club, got Corby on the scoresheet but they were condemned to a damaging loss.

Fazel Koriya marked his return to AFC Rushden & Diamonds with a goal as they made it 14 games without defeat in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League Division South with a 2-1 success at Gresley FC.

Koriya took just 11 minutes to open his account in his second spell for the club as he controlled the ball at the far post and coolly slotted Diamonds in front.

But Gresley levelled the game up 10 minutes later when Courtney Meade was fouled by Liam Dolman and the home player picked himself up to score from 12 yards.

Diamonds got their noses back in front 10 minutes before the break when Richard Bunting’s corner was glanced home by Liam Dolman.

Tom Lorraine and Lewis Leslie both had chances before half-time but it took a big defensive effort to see the game out in the second period.

Meade blasted wide and then Pearson Mwanyongo saw an effort hit the far post.

Diamonds had a late appeal for a penalty waved away after Lewis Wilson went down under a challenge before fine last-ditch blocks from Dolman and Harris preserved the win as Gresley piled the pressure on.

Kettering Town made it two home wins in a row in the Evo-Stik Southern League Premier Division with a 2-0 success over bottom side Cinderford Town.

The damage was done in the opening 10 minutes as Aaron O’Connor fired home the opener before Brett Solkhon headed home a James Brighton corner to give the hosts a cushion.

Cinderford created opportunities in the second half but were unable to convert them and the Poppies saw things out to seal the points.
