Ian Sampson believes it will be a “great coup” for Corby Town if they are able to sign former Northampton Town pair Andy Holt and Jason Crowe.

Both players featured in the first half of the Steelmen’s 4-1 win at UCL Premier Division outfit Harborough Town on Wednesday night, a run-out that left boss Sampson satisfied.

However, the inclusion of those experienced ex-Cobblers caught the eye but Sampson was remaining realistic when asked what the chances of getting them on board for the Blue Square Bet North campaign.

“Andy and Jason played in the first half and we might get one of the two,” Sampson said.

“If we are really lucky we might get both of them and if that were to happen then it would be a great coup.

“But it is probably a long shot because they have other irons in the fire.

“Overall, it was a very good exercise for us.

“It was an extension of the training we have been doing and we had the chance to look at a few of the lads who have been with us.

“I never read anything into pre-season results because you are only going to be in trouble if you think you have cracked it after one game.

“Having said that, to get a win is always a bonus.”

Sampson also confirmed that Ricky Miller is a player he is keeping a “keen eye on”.

Miller, who has previously had a spell with the Steelmen, scored twice in the first half before further goals from new arrivals Avelino Vieira and Jon Stead finished the job off.

Sampson added: “We have having a look at Ricky.

“He was at the club a few years ago and did well and we are keeping a keen eye on him as well a few others.

“But I am aware that there are some other clubs after him.”
