Ian Sampson believes his Corby Town side will get their “most severe tests” in their two pre-season friendlies this week.
The Steelmen have a Southern League double-header ahead of them with a trip to Division One Central side Rugby Town tonight (7.45pm) being followed by a clash at Premier Division outfit Bedford Town on Saturday.
Corby have already impressed in the early stages of pre-season with a notable home win over Northampton Town being followed by a 1-1 draw with a Stoke City XI.
But Sampson, who completed the signing of centre-half Briand Pierrick, yesterday feels his squad will be facing different challenges this week.
“I would think these teams will give us the most severe tests,” Sampson said.
“They may have a point to prove against a team from a higher level, which is similar to the situation we were in against Northampton and Stoke.
“But the two matches represent good challenges for us.”
Sampson expects to have the majority of his first-team squad on show at Rugby tonight.
He added: “We have a couple unavailable but that is something that happens with non-League footballers.
“It probably won’t be the team that starts the season on August 18 but the majority of the first-team squad will be there.”
