Right mentality is key to Steelmen's chances, says boss Tommy

The Steelmen head to the north west knowing they will move out of the bottom three of the Vanarama National League North if they avoid defeat to the fourth-placed hosts.

Corby’s miserable form at Steel Park continued at the weekend when they were beaten 2-1 by Gainsborough Trinity to ensure they remain in big trouble at the wrong end of the table.

Having already played more games than most of their rivals, Corby will be without a game next weekend, making tonight’s clash even more important.

And while many will not fancy their chances, Steelmen boss Wright is confident they can cause the promotion-chasers problems.

“If we had won on Saturday then there wouldn’t have been as much pressure on this game as there is now,” Wright said.

“People will not look at Fylde away as a chance to pick up points and I am sure many will expect us to get beaten.

“So it’s up to the players to focus on the job and show they can go there and get something.

“It was frustrating at the weekend because we played well at times but a 10-minute spell when we were too complacent cost us and that’s how brutal this division is.

“I don’t think any team in this league is unbeatable. Harrogate Town are a good side but would anyone have expected them to beat Solihull Moors 6-0 at the weekend? I certainly didn’t.

“That’s football. Anybody can beat anybody on any day. And our boys have to go up there tonight with that mentality, they have to go up thinking they can win

“We may well be under pressure at times but then it’s about defending your goal and fighting for your team-mates.”

Wright, meanwhile, believes having Ben Milnes available again will be a “massive boost” for his squad.

The midfielder missed the weekend defeat due to a one-match ban but he is set to be involved this evening while Wright is also hopeful recent loan signing Ryan Robbins will also be fit after being withdrawn on Saturday due to a hamstring problem.

“It’s a massive boost to have Ben back,” the Steelmen boss added.

“I think it showed at times on Saturday that we lacked a passer in the middle of the pitch and that’s what he gives us.

“I spoke to Ryan on Sunday and he thinks he will be okay. It looks like it was more down to fatigue and tiredness more than anything else.”
