Right characters in place for Steelmen's fight to survive

Tommy Wright believes he has the right characters in the Corby Town dressing-room as they battle for survival in the Vanarama National League North.

The Steelmen claimed a valuable point at the weekend as Ben Milnes’ last-gasp goal earned them a 1-1 draw at in-form Alfreton Town.

The point was enough to lift Corby out of the relegation zone and they are now preparing to take on play-off contenders Nuneaton Town at Steel Park on Saturday.

It’s been a good week or so for Wright and his players as the draw at Alfreton came after a fine 2-0 home success over Tamworth last week.

But the Steelmen boss knows there will be more “ups and downs” before the season is over, although he firmly believes he has the right group of players in place for the tough fight ahead.

“I think it all comes down to the characters you have in the dressing-room,” Wright said.

“You need lads who will buy into your ideas and who like to be around each other.

“I think we have that now. It makes my job a lot easier when the group get on well and enjoy spending time with each other away from the pitch.

“It’s clear they are ready to fight for every point. We have had two great results in the last week or so and not many would have expected us to take four points from those two matches.

“The players are working hard and they look fit, strong and well organised defensively and offensively.

“It is still going to be a rollercoaster over the next few weeks.

“There will be ups and downs between now and the end of the season.

“What we have to focus on is just trying to keep it going after a couple of decent performances and results.”
