James Mallows insists he hasn't thought about promotion despite his Whitworth team's lofty position in UCL Division One

The Flourmen picked up their fifth successive victory when they claimed a decisive 3-0 verdict over Raunds Town at London Road last weekend.

The trip to Potton marks the halfway point in Whitworth’s league season.

And, despite that win over the Shopmates moving them to within one point of second-placed Olney Town and to within four of leaders Daventry Town with a game in hand, boss James Mallows insists he hasn’t even thought about promotion yet.

“We have hit a bit of form and we are just going to try to keep it going,” the Whitworth manager said.

“But I have not even thought about promotion.

“I think we will just see where we are at Christmas and take it from there.

“It was a good win last weekend. The boys know the Raunds players well and I think we deserved the win.

“We need to try to do it against another team who are up there.

“We have got a good squad and the morale is probably the best I have ever experienced as a player or manager.

“Our main aim was to get more points than we did last season and I think we only need one more to achieve that!

“There’s a real togetherness about this squad and hopefully we can use that and crack on and finish as high as possible.”

Elsewhere in Division One this weekend, Raunds will bid to bounce back from last weekend’s loss in another local derby when they entertain Thrapston Town, who claimed a fine 2-1 win after extra-time at Harborough Town in the UCL Knockout Cup in midweek thanks to goals from Jedd Whiteman and Duncan Charles.

Irchester United will look to make it three wins in a row when they head to Long Buckby after they won 3-2 at Melton Town last time out.

Burton Park Wanderers take on Lutterworth Athletic at Latimer Park while Stewarts & Lloyds are on the road at Bourne Town.
