Poppies boss Law sick of the sight of '˜square one'

The Poppies’ dreadful run of form at Latimer Park continued on Tuesday night as they suffered a 2-1 defeat to Redditch United.

The loss was Kettering’s fifth in 10 outings on home soil in the Evo-Stik Southern League Premier Division this season.

It came off the back of a three-match unbeaten run in the league as away successes at St Ives Town and Kings Langley were followed by an encouraging 0-0 draw at fifth-placed Hitchin Town last weekend.

But the home hoodoo struck again as, despite taking the lead through James Brighton after just 49 seconds, the Poppies conspired to throw it away in the second half with Max Loveridge’s goal winning it for Redditch with three minutes remaining.

Law has already come under pressure this season with his team’s inconsistent form ensuring that they remain well off the pace as far as the play-off places are concerned, even though a push for promotion had been expected.

And he is fully aware that the “circus” his team are performing when it comes to conceding poor goals is not the kind of entertainment the home fans want.

“I am sick of seeing square one and you run out of reasons for why it’s happening,” the Poppies boss said.

“You do four corners and you are back to where you started for about the 10th time this season.

“Supporters come to the home games wanting to see their side win. They are getting entertained by the circus we are putting on to concede goals but it’s not the entertainment they want to pay for.”

Any sort of charge similar to the one Kettering started around this time last season towards the play-off places seems a long way off at the present time.

Law was left to reflect on Tuesday night being a “missed opportunity” as teams above Kettering also slipped up.

And he knows the pressure cooker will be turned up again when they step out at Latimer Park to take on a Dorchester side they beat 2-0 on the opening day of the season.

“I looked at the results and it would have been a great opportunity,” he added.

“Teams above us dropped points and it was a perfect opportunity missed again.

“I said that the value of last Saturday’s point at Hitchin would be shown in these two games.

“We are forever talking about pressure and now we have it again for this weekend.”

Tomorrow’s game is followed by a tough midweek trip for Law’s men when they head to leaders Leamington on Tuesday.
