Poppies boss Law happy to 'get back to business'

Having gone six games without a victory in all competitions, the Poppies claimed a 2-0 success at Bishop’s Stortford, which saw them move back up to third place in the Evo-Stik South League Premier and to within a point of the top two.

Top scorer Aaron O’Connor put them in front with his 11th goal of the season before Rhys Hoenes added the second soon after half-time.

And boss Law said: “It was a good away performance.

“We did everything we needed to do. There was some no nonsense defending and we made the right decisions at the right times.

“They had a 10-minute spell, which was their prime time but we dealt with it and throughout the game I thought we looked a threat.

“We went through the gears and we grinded them down. We scored two good goals on the counter-attack and we could have had more goals later on but some good goalkeeping and defending stopped us.

“Overall, I am really pleased. It was good to get back to business. We looked more like the team from the early stages of the season.”

Last night’s success also brought with it a sixth successive clean sheet in the league for Kettering.

It’s been 576 minutes and counting since a team breached the Poppies’ defences in a league game.

“We are laying some good foundations,” Law added.

“I think we have kept 11 clean sheets this season and Tuesday was our sixth in a row in the league so we are giving teams something to think about when it comes to breaking us down.

“Bishop’s Stortford came at us, they were lively but we grinded them down and that’s what we need to keep doing.”

The Poppies are back on the road on Saturday when they head to Farnborough.
